Prior to the drive preview of the 2015 Subaru WRX STI in Carmel, California, the car debuted at this year’s Detroit auto show. At that point, everyone had discovered that the STI’s 2.5-liter engine would produce 305 hp at 6000 rpm—the same as the outgoing model. Armed with primarily this fact, they went on the type of warpath usually reserved for the likes of Silvio Berlusconi under cross-examination from Charlie Sheen. Typical of the frothy fury was Stevessvt’s comment in theBackfires thread for the debut story: “305 hp? What an absolute fail.”

And so, upon alighting in Eastwood Central, we cornered Masuo Takatsu, the program manager for both the WRX and STI. Said he: “I felt the STI’s weaker area was the handling side. If we didn’t have the chassis, why add more power to overwhelm it? Also, this EJ engine has proved itself in competition.

 It’s an engine we confidently bring to the track, [whereas] the new FA-series in the WRX has not been proven in motorsports. Plus, we knew the aftermarket could supply more power to those STI owners who demanded it.”

2015 Maserati GranTurismo MC Centennial Edition Coupe And Convertible

Maserati is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and just like pretty much every car brand that celebrates anniversaries these days, the Italian automaker is set to introduce a special-edition GranTurismo MC to commemorate the occasion. The car is called the GranTurismo MC Centennial Edition and as expected, it comes with a bevy of exterior and interior upgrades befitting a model that’s been designated with the important "anniversary model" label.

Give how incredibly sexy the GranTurismo MC already is in its standard guise, it seems like Maserati just found the perfect opportunity to create a limited run of GranTurismo MC models that makes it even more attractive. The GranTurismo MC Centennial Edition is set to become available in the next few months as either a coupe 

or a convertible model.

If deciding on getting one isn’t hard enough already, you now have to choose between getting a coupe or a drop-top. Then again, there are worse problems to have these days, and being in that situation should be considered a blessing.

Fifth And Final Pagani Zonda Revolucion: 2014 Geneva Motor Show Live Photos

At this week’s 2014 Geneva Motor Show, Pagani is showing off its fifth and final Zonda Revolucion, which means production of the Zonda line of supercars has reached an end. Sadly, all five Zonda Revolucions built have been sold, with this particular example, which wears blue carbon panels, destined for a customer in Japan.

The Zonda Revolucion is strictly a track toy, as it can’t be registered for road use and doesn’t adhere to any particular motorsport regulations. But it’s possibly one of the fastest track toys money can could buy as it’s capable of setting some incredible track times.

Pagani hasn’t provided any performance figures just yet, but the company says the Zonda Revolucion is more extreme than the previous Zonda R, which set a 6:47 Nürburgring lap time back in 2010, so expect even better numbers.

The car packs Pagani’s latest technology, including a 6.0-liter AMG V-12 with 800 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque. That power doesn't have much vehicle to push because the Revolucion weighs in at just 2,360 pounds.

New 2015 Jaguar XE revealed: technology, specs, price and full details

The Jaguar XE, a new compact executive car from the British brand, has been revealed. The car's release date will be after its debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October, with the first deliveries in May 2015. The new Jaguar XE price range starts at about £27,000 for the entry-level model.

Some of the most important cars for the premium manufacturers compete in this class, with the mighty BMW 3 Series, the impressive Mercedes C-Class and soon-to-be-replaced Audi A4 already battling it out. 

Jaguar has challenged itself in entering this crucial  sector in 2015. The car is a result of around £2bn worth of investment in a new factory on Land Rover’s home turf in Solihull, W Mids. The car's bodyshell is mostly aluminium and is constructed here, and the plant will also assemble the XE. A new engine plant in Wolverhampton is also set to produce the car's efficient new Ingenium engines. 

The XE has created more than 3,000 new jobs in the UK and will significantly boost Jaguar sales, which in this country at least lag behind Land Rover three to one. So is the new car up to it?
