Article file under http://www.supercars.net

The inaugural Sporting Classics of Monaco auction, held at the Grimaldi Forum on 1st May, saw five automobiles fetch prices in excess of €2,000,000 and two new world records get set. The event’s top seller was a rare 1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica Cabriolet Pininfarina SWB, s/n 3309 SA, setting a new world record for a Superamerica when it sold for €2,800,000 ($3,799,600), well exceeding its high estimate of €2,450,000. A rare 1960 Maserati Tipo 61 ‘Birdcage’, s/n 2470, also set a new world record for a Birdcage at €2,464,000 ($3,343,648). The sale’s cover car, the 1937 BMW 328 MM ‘Bügelfalte’, s/n 85032, exchanged hands less than 24 hours of the sale’s conclusion for a confidential sum and is not included in the final sale results.

Submerged Bugatti Recovered After 74 Years Goes To Auction

Article file under http://www.worldcarfans.com

An original 1925 Bugatti Brescia Type 22 Roadster, submerged in a lake for over 70 years, is expected to fetch at least €70,000 when it hits the auction block later this month. The car had been in Switzerland's Lake Maggiore since 1936 following an argument between the car's owner and a government official.

Roughly 20% of the car is reusable, including the aluminum, brass, rubber, and wood used in its original assembly. The car suffered more damage on its right-hand side due to its position in the lake. Evidence of early tuning work shows a car with "a simple racing body lacking electrics," two-piece valances under the bonnet, and flared rear mudguards. The car's identity was tracked through its chassis number, 2461, engine number, 879, and gearbox number, 964. It carries a Chausson radiator, Zenith carburetor, and a twin ignition from SEV.

Proceeds from the car's auction will benifit the Fondazione Damiano Tamagni charity, which works to reduce levels of violent crimes amongst juveniles. The foundation was named for Damiano Tamagni, a young man killed in February 2008 after being severely beaten by three others in Locarno, Switzerland. Tamagni was a member of a diving club which frequently toured the car underwater. His father Maurizio is still a member of the club, and worked with them to rescue the vehicle.

The last owner of the car is believed to be Marco Schmuklerski, an architect who's buildings are still dotted around the country. Rumors in Switzerland suggest that an official, upset that import taxes were never paid on the car, demanded the car´s destruction. The official´s underlings complied by dumping the car in the water, where it was forgotten until 1967 when a local diver found the car half-buried on the lakebed.

As a group the diving club worked to surface the car, an event witnessed by Bugatti Club Suisse members last July. Estimates suggest the auction value of the car could top €90,000. The vehicle could potentially be restored, or it could be prepared as a display piece.

eBay Find of the Day: The Jerrari

Article file under http://www.autoblog.com

In 1963, Henry Ford II wanted to win Le Mans badly and was all set to buy Ferrari to boost Ford's racing program. Enzo Ferrari pulled out of the deal at the last moment, angering Ford II so badly that he went on to fund development of the legendary GT40 that went on to take many motorsports victories.

A few years later, Mr. Ferrari pissed off yet another powerfully rich American businessman with the outcome being the automotive abomination you see before you. Bill Harrah of Harrah's Casino fame asked Ferrari to construct for him an Italian 4X4 wearing the prancing horse badge. While no one thought to archive the response from Ferrari, we imagine it involved the words 'hell' and 'no'. In Italian, of course.

Undeterred and with more money than taste, Harrah created the Jerrari. Its ass-end is a 1970 Jeep Wagoneer, the nose is from a 1969 Ferrari 365GT. On the day of its birth, this one-of-a-kind offroading Ferrari sported V12 power, but now all four wheels are turned by a 350 V8.

The eBay auction for this abomination includes numerous pieces of documentation, like a 1971 review of the car by "Road & Track." Another is a letter from a previous seller in 1984 that indicates there could be more than one of these hideous creations out there. Maybe that's what's been starting all these rumors.

Original Lamborghini Miura Turin Salon Chassis found

Article file under http://www.worldcarfans.com/9081223.010/
original-lamborghini-miura-turin-salon-chassis-found

Only one 1965 Turin Salon Lamborghini Miura chassis was ever made, and it was designed for the Turin Motor Show in 1965. A transverse mid-mounted V12-powered machine (Lambo's first), has not been seen publicly in over thirty years.

The story of the chassis, recently purchased by a group of collectors in Los Angeles, is a worldly tale. After touring the Italian company's Bolognese factory headquarters in 1977, Marios Kritikos, a Lamborghini dealer from Cyprus, spotted the chassis and knew he had to have it. Designed by Gian Paulo Dallara, the chassis was loaded on a trailer hitched to Kritikos' Range Rover a year later, and was driven out of town.

The first ever mid-engined supercar concept sat in Kritikos' collection, untouched since its debut in Turin. Once discovered by a collector in California, the sale of the machine was negotiated by two Miura specialists, and the vehicle went state-side. Found with the car were items like its original bill of sale, and a collection of photographs from both Lamborghini and Kritikos. Now it is being restored in San Diego at the Bobileff Motorcar Company, where it will be brought back to its original Turin-show condition.

The chassis will make a US debut next summer

One-Off Lamborghini Miura Spyder Re-Emerges

Article file under http://www.worldcarfans.com/9080905.006/
one-off-lamborghini-miura-spyder-re-emerges

Created by Nuccio Bertone in 1967, the one of a kind Lamborghini Miura Spyder was intended as a design exercise, aimed at keeping demand for Lamborghini’s Miura riding high. The ‘Lamborghini Bertone Miura Roadster,’ as it was officially christened made appearances at European and North American motor shows between 1968 and 1978. After being refinished and re-trimmed in 1968 the Miura Spyder was eventually passed on to the Boston Museum of Transportation in 1981, who had it refurbished and reupholstered in the mid 80's.

From there it passed on to more than a handful of different owners, a few of which did not know the historical significance of the vehicle. Ultimately, the Miura Spyder ended up in the hands of New York property developer in 2006, who at great cost, returned the Miura Spyder to its original 1968 Salon de L’Automobile Bruxelles specification. The conversion, by the Bobileff Motorcar Company, was completed late August 2008
