Top ten new cars of 2008

Article file under http://www.topspeed.com/cars/car-news/
top-ten-new-cars-of-2008-ar68409.html

BMW 1-Series

We’re already starting off with a disputed car. BMW made is reputation with small cars that could kick ass. Anyone who owned a 2002 regrets the day he/she sold it. The 1-Series is the closest thing we will get to in North America to that same spirit (even if BMW no longer sell four-cylinder cars here.) It’s got razor sharp handling and is available with 300 horsepower.

Yes, the styling is a little awkward and the 3-Series overlaps in pricing, but this is exactly what a BMW should be. The 1-Series is the unassuming sport car.

Cadillac CTS/CTS-V

The CTS is a contender because the level of quality was raised this year, but it made the list because of the CTS-V. Corvette power, Cadillac luxury…’nuff said.

Chevrolet Corvette

The ZR-1 has 638 hp and costs about $105,000. That’s about $164.50 per horse. No other supercar offers that.

Oh yeah, this is complete car with good handling, too.

Dodge Challenger

The Dodge Challenger is the kind of car that alters personalities. Even an accountant feels like a badass driving one.

This is a big car, and it drives like a big car. The suspension is a little soft, the turning radius could be measured in yards, and compact parking spaces don’t apply here. But that doesn’t matter because even when you’re out on a milk run, you feel cool.

Jaguar XF

If the Challenger makes you feel cooler, the Jaguar XF makes you feel like a better person. Just by sitting behind the wheel and looking at the real wood, rising shifter knob, and emerging air vents, something changes. You’re social status feels elevated further than any other $50,000 luxury sedan can do.

Lotus Elise SC

Okay, the Elise isn’t all that new, but Lotus did add a supercharger to to SC to haul around or butts even quicker. 217 hp in a car that weighs less than 2000 lbs. is something we love

Mitsubishi Lance Evolution X

Nissan GT-R

Godzilla is back, and no other car we’ve ever experiences has been so thoroughly though out. It took almost seven years to go from clean sheet to 480 hp (disputed) 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6, all-wheel drive supercoupe. Just to be in the car’s presence (not even the drive) and seeing all the little details in person makes you appreciate the car. We’re still trying to figure out how many organs we need to sell to get one permanently.

Saturn Astra

This will likely be the most disputed car on the list, but drive one before you pass judgment, damnit.

Saturns are now just Opels with odd badges, and Opels are cool again. This starts at $16,500 before discounts. As far a cheap transportation with some personality, this one really has something to offer

Subaru Impreza WRX

Here’s the everyday driver for the person who doesn’t want to grow up. Take it to the office in the morning, and take the long way home. Although the redesign took place in 2007, the engine got 41 more horses in 2008.

We couldn’t get enough of the Subaru WRX in our test fleet. All-wheel drive, razor-sharp steering, 265 hp, $25,000: NO BETTER VALUE FOR THE MONEY.

Ten Most Beautiful Cars Currently For Sale

Article file under http://jalopnik.com/5039531/
ten-most-beautiful-cars-currently-for-sale

10. Audi R8

Years of female empowerment public service announcements and deodorant ads have convinced us it's possible to be both athletic and beautiful. But even in a world without "Girl Power" the Audi R8 is extant proof that strong is sexy. Despite its Lamborghini heritage, there are no scissor doors or fighter jet inspired vents. The R8 is one of the few modern mid-engined cars that's actually subtle and, therefore, the object of burglar's desire.

9. Fiat 500

Like a beautiful handle on the entrance to a towering gothic church, the Fiat 500 is the epitome of a brilliant design sometimes overlooked. Coming from the land and company that produces Lamborghinis and Ferraris it was the 500 that captured the European Car Of The Year trophy in 2007. Though quasi-retro, the inexpensive 500 stands out like a Hungarian wax pepper in a world of milquetoast economy cars. We applaud Layabout for selecting it.

8. Citroen C6

Louis Armstrong famously said that "If you have to ask what Jazz is, you'll never know." We think we can apply this sentiment to the Citroen C6. Clearly the funkiest car on our list, the Citroen nevertheless manages to capture everything wonderful about French car design. The designers effectively grab one line at the nose and effortlessly stretch it back to the uniquely designed taillights. It's as though the car was painted in one stroke. The integration of the Citroen logo into the grille is as attractive as it is clever. No wonder that both Chirac and Muhnkee_2 chose the C6 as their official state cars.

7. Jaguar XK Coupe

Though not always the most reliable cars on the market, Jaguar coupes have traditionally set the standard for elegance and beauty and the latest Jaguar XK coupe is no exception. An evolution of a design that goes back to the original E-type, the Jaguar is a design that gets better each time you look at it.

6. Audi RS6 Avant

Putting our bias towards wagons aside, the Audi RS6 Avant may be the most understated performance car on the planet. Powered by a twin-tubro V10, there are no huge wings, garish ground effects or blinding clusters of lights to hint at the car's awesome ability. As Parkington understands, the satin-finish trim around the Avant's lusty grille and subtle extra lines quietly nod to the car's ability while still maintaining it's obvious class.

5. Cadillac CTS

Few sedans can compete with the supercars and GTs in the aesthetic department, and the few that rise to their level have historically been European. It's therefore a grand occasion that the Cadillac CTS, an American sedan, can compete with this esteemed company. It's as if all of those years of talking about "Cadillac Style" finally erupted forth into reality with the new CTS. It's a car both muscular and delicate, modern and timeless, yet luxurious and distinctly American. The fact that Yoshi can actually afford one has nothing to do with its beauty though clearly something to do with its allure. We can't wait for the Coupe and Wagons versions to go on sale to show the world what the "Art & Science" design is all about.

4. Masererati GranTurismo

The Maserati GranTurismo lives up to its name as one of the grandest of tourers. And even if it had the motor from an old Datsun and a transmission from a new Suzuki it would still be one of the quickest looking cars on the market. Whether in normal or GranTurismo S trim, the Maserati leaves broken hearts in its wake. Drop dead gorgeous from any angle, the integrated exhaust tips and triangular taillights combine for one of the best looking rears in the business. We think Sandwich Pants would take it over Beyonce any day.

3. Alfa Brera

A consensus favorite among anyone with working optic nerves, the Alfa Romeo Brera redefines the "hot hatch." The low greenhouse and high beltline combine for a stance that's uncharacteristic of a hatchback and the sloping shoulders are surprisingly exotic. But it's the curved hood, which angles towards the nose in a way that's almost F1-esque, that causes our hearts to skip beats like Ferris Bueller skips school.

2. Aston Martin DB9

A list of beautiful cars without an Aston Martin would be as incomplete as a list of beautiful women without Scarlett Johansson. But which Aston? The Vantage? The DBS? Though all Astons are powerful and gorgeous, the Aston Martin DB9 is the most classic example of what makes the classic British brand the flag of luxury and elegance. Stripped of the menacing enhancements of those other Astons, the DB9 is one smooth movement. They say Michaelangelo had an eye for stone, It's as if the designers crafted it from one piece of unadulterated marble for Dr. Danger to worship.

1. Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione

There's a reason why we devoted a day to the Alfa Romeo Competizione and it is embodied in the photo above. Not so much the creation of man, we assume, like the psalmists, it was God's will manifest through human hands. It outshines anything from Bugatti, Lamborghini or Ferrari while using a tenth of the lines of their simplest cars. With perfectly round taillights, Alfa's typical crest-shaped grille and ovular headlights it's hard to put into words what makes the car so special. We simply don't have words that are good enough. It's everything that's great about Italian cars and nothing that's bad about them. It's a dream come true and you can actually buy one.

Most Fuel Efficient Cars

Article file under http://www.thesupercars.org/ford/most-fuel-efficient-cars/

Gas prices have tripled since 2000 and it is not going to get any lower. The average gas price in the U.S. is currently $4.50/gallon and that number is expected to rise even further within the next few years. The best ways to save money is not drive at all and just stay home, sit in front of your computer all day long! Most of us can’t do that because we must drive to work and we live in a society where driving is a necessity. How many miles are you getting from a gallon of gas? There will be no expensive cars in this post and none of the cars here will reach 0-60 in 5 secs, but these cars will save you money on gas every year.

Best Gas Mileage Cars - Top 10 List:

1. Toyota Prius: 48 City/45 Hwy, Base Price: $21,100. 1.5-liter, 16-Valve VVT-i 4-Cylinder engine with 110 hp, 0-60 in 9.8 secs. The most fuel efficient car on the market is the Toyota Prius, also the most demanding car in the U.S. Most dealers will charge you an extra $2000 for this car because it is rare and Toyota just doesn’t make enough of it yet. A small sedan, but roomy enough for 5 and it is perfect for those that drive over 100 miles a day to work.

2. Honda Civic Hybrid: 40 City/45 Hwy, Base Price: $22,600. 1.3-liter, 8-Valve, SOHC, i-VTEC® 4-Cylinder engine with 110 hp, 0-60 in 11.3 secs. Second on the list is a Honda Civic Hybrid, perfect for those Honda’s fans that hate the Toyota Prius. 5 seats sedan with an electric motors, allowing you to save money on gasoline.

3. Smart for Two: 33 City/41 Hwy, Base Price: $11,590. 1.0-liter 3-cylinder runs on high-priced premium fuel with only 70 hp. Small, affordable 2-seat car that has a small engine, capable of saving you a lot of money.

4. Volkswagen Jetta TDI: 29 City/40 Hwy, Base Price: $20,000. 2.0-liter, 4-Cylinder diesel engine with 140 hp. Run on clean diesel and it is expected to hit the U.S. market by August 2008; the 2009 VW Jetta TDI actual performances may vary.

5. Nissan Altima Hybrid: 35 City/33 Hwy, Base Price: $25,170. 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder gas engine with 158 horsepower. A midsize sedan made for the Nissan lovers; a bit sportier than most hybrids.

6. Toyota Camry Hybrid: 33 City/34 Hwy, Base Price: $25,350. 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder with 192-horsepower, reaching 0-60 in 8.9 secs. If you love the original Camry, then you should try the Camry Hybrid because it has better fuel economy and it can be a big saver after a few years.

7. Ford Escape Hybrid (tie): 34 City/30 Hwy, Base Price: $26,640. 2.3-liter, 4-cylinder with 155 hp. Along with 2 other SUV, The Ford Escape Hybrid is the most fuel efficient SUV in the world.

Mazda Tribute Hybrid (tie): 34 City/30 Hwy, Base Prices: $25,310 . 2.3-liter, 4-cylinder with 155 horsepower. If you want an SUV that can save you money on gasoline, why not get this Mazda?

Mercury Mariner Hybrid (tie): 34 City/30 Hwy, Base Price: $26,955 . 2.3-liter, 4-cylinder and 155 horsepower. A small SUV that can be a little pricey, but it will make up for it cost in the long run.

8. Toyota Yaris vs Toyota Corolla. Which Toyota vehicle would you rather own? The Yaris is definitely a better buy, but it is smaller than the average sedan and it functionality is very limited.

Toyota Yaris: 29 City/35 Hwy, Base Price: $11,350.

Toyota Corolla: 28 City/37 Hwy, Base Price: $15,250.

9. Mini Cooper: 28 City/37 Hwy, Base Price: $18,700. Engines: 118hp 1.6 L I4. A small vehicle that can also be purchased as a convertible.

10. Honda Fit vs Ford Focus vs Honda Civic. Which do you prefer out of these 3 cars? All 3 cars are under $16,000 and they will get you around 30-miles per gallon of gas.

Honda Fit: 28 City/34 Hwy, Base Price: $13,950.

Ford Focus: 24 City/35 Hwy, Base Price: $14,395

Honda Civic: 26 City/34 Hwy, Base Price: $15,010

Special Car - Honda Civic GX (run on natural gas): 24 City/36 Hwy, Base Price: $24, 590. 113-hp, 1.8-Liter, 16-Valve, SOHC i-VTEC® 4-cylinder engine. This is probably the most fuel efficient car because natural gasoline costs less than $1.00 a gallon. However, this isn’t on the top 10 list because it is currently only available in NY and CA and it is very limited. You probably won’t find a natural gas pump at your regular gas station, that is why Honda sells an at home pump you can plug into your home’s natural gas line. A full tank (8 gallons) can travels approximately 170 miles and fueling stations are very limited; make sure to plan your trip correctly if you own a Civic GX.

What do you think of this list? If there are better fuel efficient cars available on the market, please list those cars and link to them. We only list cars that are currently available for purchase and has already been on the market. Cars that are in production cannot be on the list because it is not yet available for purchase. Your comment is very valuable and it will help us keep the list accurate

-top-ten-sexy-car-for-women-ar10490.html

What do women want? it seems that not only Tom Cruise has an answer to the question, but also Road & Travel Magazine wich has has released its 10th annual "Sexy Car Buyer’s Guide,” which aims to identify the “sexiest, hottest, wildest wheels” on the road. The final cut includes cars like the Chevrolet Corvette, Ford Mustang, BMW Z4, Mercedes-Benz SLK and a newcomer to the list — the newly released Pontiac Solstice.

How thwy were chosen, simple, by the pure sex appeal. Increasingly, women are buying sports cars, and in doing so they are making a strong statement about their independence, says editor in chief Courtney Caldwell.

“Years ago, the sports car was something that was way out of the reach of most women, but now those cars have become more affordable, and these days more women are college-educated, and they are earning larger salaries. So we are seeing more of them purchase sports cars instead of simply admiring them from afar,” Caldwell said.
