VW Scirocco GT24 Endurance Racing Car Is Class Winner at 2008 24 Hours Nurburgring.

The VW Scirocco has caused quite a bit of excitement among car enthusiasts who have refused to give up on Volkswagen after all these years. The new 2009 Scirocco has been met with a huge reception in the European markets, and as a promotional piece and standing on its own.

The high performance VW Scirocco GT24 was developed as an attempt at one of the most demanding endurance races in the world, the 24 Hours Nurburgring.

The Volkswagen Scirocco GT24 develops a hair more than 320 horsepower coming from a 16 valve turbocharged 2.0 liter direct injection 4 cylinder engine. Perhaps more notably, the Scirocco GT24 uses a DSG transmission that is almost exactly the same unit found in the production 2009 Scirocco, which should be good news to VW tuners looking to this exciting sports coupe for tuning purposes.

So how did the Scirocco GT24, in full endurance racing trim, fare at Nurburgring this year? Quite well. The 2.0 liter Volkswagen took 11th place overall at the 24 Hours Nurburgring endurance race, pitted against the finest Porsche 911-based endurance racers in the world and teams that spanned the globe. 11th place was also good enough for a class victory for the Scirocco GT24, which took home the crown for a 2.0 liter turbo class in which there were many entries.
